Forum Mod Fail
So my friend decided to make a joke thread on the forums about the Quick Chat option about slayer tasks being completes.

We both thought that the thread would be locked within the same day, but it survived quite a while.
I lol’d when this forum mod decided to act like he was taken seriously.
Another Goal
I’ve recently achieved 99 Farming so I’ve shifted my focus away from more 99s for now and decided to aim for all my skills over 85. I actually bothered to make a list of the ones that I still need to get to 85, and how I plan on getting there.
The remaining skills: Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, Prayer, Magic, Construction, Dungeoneering, Constitution, Crafting, Fletching, Slayer, Mining, Smithing, Fishing, Firemaking, Cooking, and Summoning.
The order of the skills include the order in which I’m getting them in. I’ve already gotten 3 of them before I posted this (Woodcutting, Hunter, and Thieving).
1 Fishing – Baxtorian fly fishing (Fish Flingers every 90 minutes for the extra exp)
2 Mining – Granite then Living Rock Caverns
2 Smithing – Superheat at concentrated gold ore (keep mining until 85 smithing)
2 Magic – Superheat at concentrated gold ore (should have well over 85 magic if I go for 85 smithing this way)
3 Cooking – Lobsters
4 Firemaking – Yew logs (seems like a waste but actually I’ll save time if I just buy yews and make the money back)
5 Fletching – Adamant bolts
6 Prayer – Dragon Bones at gilded altar
7 Construction – Oak dungeon doors
8 Crafting – Probably a mixture of battlestaves and green dragonhide bodies
9 Slayer – I haven’t had much experience with Kuradel or Lapalok so I’ll try Kuradel first.
9 Melee stats – Easy enough. Slayer should get me 85 in all melees
9 Constitution – Slayer
10 Ranged – Probably just bronze knives at yaks
11 Summoning – Charms from slayer
That’s about it. I should have all of these by the end of the year, then I’ll probably go for another 99.
Another goal of mine is to rank in Runecraft. Unlike most people on RuneScape, I enjoy graahk runecrafting a lot. I want 1 million nature runes before the summer is over and hopefully 100+ rank on the highscores before the end of the school year. That’s over double my experience at the moment, but I’ll try my best to get there.
Spirit Graahk RuneCrafting Guide
This is my first attempt at a guide. I will probably re-edit this video after I get some feedback. At the moment, I just wanted to get it out because I’ll be gone all week, and I promised my friend it’d be out soon.
Murtagh118 – Back in Action
I have returned after 1 year and 2 months. Expect a new video soon. I am officially unbanned from bug abuse.
YouTube – Video Coming
Within a month from today, I will be releasing yet another video on my channel. This will be an interactive video, in greater detail than “Another Word from the Director – Current Events”, about the goal and journey I’ve taken in order to get my account back. I strongly urge you all to promote this video. Stay tuned, as it’s very important if you’ve been following up on my situation. Everything about my account will be explained in this one video, and it’s paramount to not leave anything important out.
Murtagh118 – Update
It’s been over a year since Murtagh118 was permanently banned. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been trying to talk to Jagex Moderator about my account in attempts to get unbanned. To my surprise, I received an inbox message from Mod Craddock after I asked him on his J Mod Clan forum. I can’t show it here, but you get the idea.
Mod Craddock replied a week later [06-Feb-2010] with good news. He let me know that he would have a Mod from the RuneScape team contact me. I don’t know when he’ll respond, but I’m figuring that he’s either already working on verifying my claim or he’ll talk to me beforehand. Mod Craddock has some measure of faith that I’m telling the truth, or else he wouldn’t pass it on. I’ve been denied over and over by the Account Review thread, appeals, and denied twice directly by another J Mod. (not mentioning names)
My best guess is that the J Mod will send me an inbox message to either Subtle Foe or Murtagh118′s account. I keep checking daily to see if I have any new messages. I’m wishing for the best, and I’ll update you soon.
Murtagh118 Achieves 99 RuneCraft and Herblore!
I achieved 99 RuneCraft and Herblore on December 29, 2008. I uploaded the video recently. Please watch.
Wrongfully Punished for What I’ve Done
Hi, you may already know me as Murtagh118, MurtaghtheGreat, Murtaghquest or Subtle Foe. I’d like to talk about something that concerns my account on RuneScape. (Murtagh118) A few months ago, (January 28, 2009) Jagex encountered a bug in the Penguin D&D. My account was permanently banned for this, yet I did not receive the equivalent punishment Jagex assessed to others. Before I move on, here’s a post from Mod Paul, 2 days after the bug and when the accounts were taken action upon.
“We have now assessed the players who have been banned for abusing a bug involving being able to spot a penguin infinitely rather than the usual once. For the next few hours we will be in the process of taking the appropriate action for each account.
“They fall into three categories.
“In the first category, 159 players have been permanently banned. These are players who have spotted a penguin at least 250 times and cashed in their points. Most had spotted significantly more than 250. Many had spotted several thousand penguins.
When you bear in mind that you can only spot 50 penguins at once. This means the players had to click on a penguin 50 times go to Larry for lots of rewards, then go back to the penguin and click 50 times go to Larry etc etc. That’s not something you can possibly do by accident.
All these people got enough penguin points to gain hundreds of thousands of xp points in hard to level skills. For several players it was millions of xp gained.
This is an extremely flagrant abuse of rule 4.
We are very aware that we have a lot of customers who play this game mostly to compete in the hiscore tables. Using bugs to gain this much xp is not fair for all the many honest players who compete for places in the hiscore table by putting in a lot of effort to get up their experience by playing legitimately.
“In the second category there are a number of players who also knowingly abused the bug and deliberately gained extra rewards from it. The numbers of penguins caught and the number of times they cashed in their points at Larry is quite clearly more than an accident, but the advantaged gained was not obscene.
These players received temporary bans for breaking rule 4
“In the third category there are a number of accounts which we felt banning them was a little too harsh. They had all spotted several more penguins than normal. Contrary to what some people have claimed we didn’t ban anyone who spotted very small numbers extra, but we feel we should have set the number even higher as on further review there are a number of users banned who we don’t think were deliberately trying to break the rules.
Nearly all of the those accounts were unbanned on Friday night, which is only two or three hours after they were initially banned, so hopefully it didn’t inconvenience to many people. We apologise to any of these people who did lose playtime as a result. We are giving some free membership credit to those users.
“A number of people have suggested a roll back of XP. While we can certainly see the merits of this idea, it’s unfortunately not technically possible at this time
“I would remind all players that making use of bugs to gain an advantage in the game is against the rules and not fair on other players. For Jagex’s part we should try as hard as we can not to let these issues arise in the first place, and we have learned from this, but when we have a game as in depth and as complicated as Runescape, even with many people testing changes, it’s unfortunately impossible to guarantee that the game will be completely bug free.
Thanks for everyone that has brought this bug to our attention and thanks to everyone who withstood the temptation to abuse this bug – you are the kind of player that makes the RuneScape community so special
“
To break it down into raw data, I calced the screenshots to the best of my ability. Like Mod Paul said, I could only have gotten 50 max per trip, where “rep” is a trip to Larry. These are time based screenshots also, which I’ve pieced together as approximately 12 minutes to gain the xp. Before jumping to conclusions and calling me cheating scum, think honestly to yourself how tempting it was to a frequent player as myself to get these stupid slayer tasks over with and finish up 70 summoning to get back to runecrafting. I had to leave after 66 summoning for, ironically, church, where the bug would no longer work when I logged back on. Since I had charms for 68 Summoning, I went ahead and got it the following night. (On a side note, I was mad at a friend so I went to train summoning instead of go to his 99 attack party. >.>) Jagex most likely overlooked the situation and permanently banned me because of the training I did following the bug. Also, the slayer xp was an accident because I that’s what I used on before I got 70 slayer. I did this accidentally. Below are the screenshots and the data…
286,725 xp total from penguins
22,500 xp fairly gained
264,225 abused
38 points – 1st rep – 57,000 xp toward summoning
47 points – 2nd rep – 83,425 xp toward slayer
50 points – 3rd rep – 77,500 xp toward summoning
43 points – 4th rep – 68,800 xp toward summoning
Total of 178 points
My tasks I did the following few days, which might be needed for evidence I didn’t use the bug afterward:
1st task – Iron Dragons
2nd task – Trolls
3rd task – Dagannoths
4th task – Basilisks
60 Summoning (to prove I had 60 before the bug legitimately) 2-Dec-08

71 Slayer (To again prove that I got all my levels before the glitch date fairly) 26-Jan-09

The Farming run I did the morning of the bug

Start of bug

Yes, I know I’m an idiot for not reading the chat… well that’s partly why I found out about it, I heard it in the chat as I was walking to Larry to cash in my original points.

By the way if you spotted more than 10, the quick chat glitched and said you only found 1.

These are my screenshots after the glitch. I trained Summoning and Slayer, which proves to that I gained fair experience following the bug. It’s possible to fake these which is a reason why Jagex doesn’t accept screenshots, but it’s up to you to decide if I did or not.

I never got the chance to sell those d legs.

This 80 Strength screenshot was actually the morning I got banned.

I really don’t expect sympathy now after being rejected by the Account Review thread and practically being called a liar by a J Mod, but this is one of my last resorts to actually get this evidence out there. I wouldn’t put this much effort into getting unbanned if Jagex said “here’s the line, do not cross it” and I did. 178 points is clearly less than 250, and after an entire year of being banned, less than 300k xp shouldn’t be considered a major advantage in the highscores. I know I abused the bug, we all mess up, temptation is a very real thing and even the best fall prey to it.

Crystal Monarch
I beat all the levels in Crazy Crystals on my FunOrb account Subtle Foe.
Recently, I’ve been attempting to get into the Hall of Heroes. Atm I have 71k Orb Points and to enter is 100k.
Also, there is a Jagex Moderator run clan that I’ve joined in attempt to resurrect Murtagh118. There are 10 ranks in Mod Craddock’s Clan. I am at the 6th rank. Mod Craddock knows about the Penguin Glitch, which is why I decided to join his instead of Mod Raven’s.
